Overview

Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek aims at passing the most thrilling, difficult, and adventurous pass of the Langtang Trekking Region, which demands physical fitness and daringness. Ganja La pass (5,130m/ 16,751ft) is always filled with snow, which makes it beautiful, chilly, and tough to pass by. The pass may be tough, but the view encountered on the way is worthwhile for all the long breath, long trek, and hardship to pass Ganja-La. During the Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek of 16 days, the day from Ngengang to Keldang via Ganja La Pass is the most breathtaking in terms of difficulty as well as in the aspects of scenery trekkers get. Langtang Ganja-la Pass Trek is carried out in the Langtang Trekking Region within the Langtang National Park. Langtang National Park is the 2nd largest national park of Nepal, established in early 1976, and the first National Park around the Himalayas with an area of 1,710 sq. km, which is also famous as a habitat of the rare red panda. The Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek trail passes through the Langtang National Park, which enables trekkers to observe diverse flora and fauna. Likewise, travelers have a chance to enjoy the diverse culture and traditions of Nepalese ethnic communities such as Tamang, Bhotia, and Hyalmo. These communities reside in the high hills of the Langtang Trekking Region and serve all the travelers and trekkers visiting the Langtang Trekking Region. The Tamang, Bhotias, Sherpa, and Hyalmo communities are traditionally enriched with the Buddhist religion, culture, and tradition of Tibetan origin.

Langtang Ganja-La Pass trek allows trekkers to have an amazing vista of the highest mountains of the world from the Annapurna Himalaya region to Manaslu (8,163 m) and also the view of mountains like Ganesh Himal(7,405 m), Langtang Lirung (7,234m), Ghengu Liru(Langtang II 6571m / 21,560ft), Kimshun (6,745m/22,137ft) and Shalbachum(6,918m / 22,699ft) to the south. The trail is also crafted with traditional villages away from urbanization, accompanied by farmlands, dense woods, and a high chance of encountering rare red pandas and other wildlife like snow Leopard, Musk deer, black Bear, Tahr, Ghoral, and common langur.

Tarke Gyang- the Temple of 100 Horses

Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek is not just attractive for its unspoiled natural beauty but also the years-old historical traditions, culture, and stories respected, adored, and conserved by the local people. One of the villages of the Langtang Ganja La passes trail, which carries the beliefs and values since the ancient period in Tarke-Gyang. Tarke-Gyang means the temple of 100 horses in the local language. As per the beliefs of locals, the great Lama (Buddhist monk) brought 100 horses from Kathmandu (the kingdom of Kathmandu in ancient days) as a reward from the King for his good deeds. Then, the Lama established the temple in 1727, which was further rebuilt in 1969. The locals highly value the temple and follow the beliefs with great respect towards the Lama and the temple. Following this belief, the village itself is named Tarke Gyang. Tarke Gyang has facilitated and served many Buddhist masters to meditate and practice. Nearby Tarke Gyang, there are many caves where the Lamas have stayed and meditated for years. Travelers and Trekkers can ask about the history and beliefs of Tarke Gyang with locals during the Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek. Any trekkers wishing to have deep details can communicate with locals during their stay at Tarke Gyang during the Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek.

Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek begins with a drive up to Dhuncha from Kathmandu Valley as per the Langtang Trekking package promoted by the Nepal Adventure Team. Mostly, the path is covered with snow; the weather is unpredictable during the daytime, and it’s windier, which creates difficulty in passing Ganja la. So, you will need to head towards Ganja La before the beginning of dawn, so that we pass Ganja La in a comfortable and easier way.
