Overview

Gosaikunda Lake, a pristine and clear lake, is at a high altitude of 4,380 m in Langtang National Park with religious value and a wetland of international importance (RAMSAR site). 8 Days Gosaikunda Lake Trek supplies the view of other lakes as Saraswati Lake and Bhairab Lake, along with scenic mountains and ridges while passing Lauribinayak La pass. Gosaikunda is also said to have a network of 108 lakes with religious significance; however, only a few of them are accessible to trekkers due to the hardship.

Besides, the religious value of Gosaikunda Lake, Gosaikunda Lake Trek treats trekkers with its unique trail decorated by woods, cattle, wildlife, majestic mountains, ridges, Saraswati Kunda Lake, Bhairab Kunda Lake, and huge rocks. Gosaikunda Lake Trek begins from Dhunche, the small town of Rasuwa district and Langtang Region, where the trails are crowded by trees and accompanied by rivers. Trekkers need to keep climbing until they pass Lauribina La Pass. Until Lauribina La Pass, trekkers are always accompanied by woods and wildflowers. While moving through Lauribinayak, the mountains welcome the trekkers, whereas trekkers can also see the ridges they have climbed up. Then, shrubs and rocks can only be seen until trekkers reach Gosaikunda Lake. The trail is small and is made through the rocky mountain, and the views observed vary with the season. However, the tranquil environment remains the same, which makes the mind peaceful and heart-pleasing. Nature can be seen in the most unspoiled form with the added beauty of lakes such as Gosaikunda, Saraswati, and Bhairab. Langtang National Park is widely popular for conserving and increasing the number of rare red panda and the Gosaikunda Lake Trekking trail passes through Langtang National Park. So, there is a high chance of encountering rare red pandas as well as other wild fauna and flora.

Gosaikunda Lake Trek is suitable for new trekkers and the enthusiasm for wildlife, culture, and mythology. Nepal Adventure Team has been severing Gosaikunda Lake Trek of 8 days (Kathmandu to Kathmandu), which would support trekkers to explore the Langtang Trekking Region in a short period of time. Gosaikunda Lake Trek - 8 Days Itinerary

Starts: Kathmandu
Ends: Kathmandu
Day 01:

Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (1950m/ 6,400ft)

Nepal Adventure Team’s guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the local bus station for the beginning of the Gosaikunda Lake Trek. Simply, you will drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, a small but major town of the Langtang Region and Rasuwa District. It’s a drive towards the northern direction from Kathmandu. You will pass various villages, stations, and towns like Galchi, Kakani, Trisuli, and Ramche. As you drive ahead, changes in weather, breeze, and altitude can be felt. The air gets cooler and fresher in comparison to Kathmandu. A small inspection will be made by the Nepal Army as you enter the Langtang National Park area, and inform you not to harm any flora and fauna. You will be staying for the night so you can roam around Dhunche to buy things that you may have missed for the Gosaikunda Lake Trek.

Day 02:

Trek from Dhunche to Thulo Syabru (2,210m / 7,250 ft)

From this day, you will start to trek and move towards the higher elevation. You will have breakfast and start trekking towards Thulo Syabru. Thulo Syabru is a small village mostly inhabited by the Tamang community of Nepal. They are one of the indigenous groups of Nepal who have been living in the Langtang region and preserving their authentic language, culture, and traditions. To reach Thulo Syabru, you will need to walk through dense woods accompanied by the river. You will be climbing steep hillocks till you pass the Lauribinayak La pass.

Day 03:

Trek to Sing Gomba/ Chandhanbari (3,330m / 10,925ft)

After having breakfast, you will march forward to reach Sing Gompa for the night's stay. You will trek through the rhododendron and pine forest. You will not feel the steepness in the trail as the trail is entirely through the woods. However, in some places, you need to push yourself to cross steep hills. Then, you will reach Sing Gompa, the famous spot of the Gosaikunda Lake Trek. Sing Gompa has a local cheese factory, so you can enjoy the cheese products and food items. Additionally, Sing Gompa has a Tibetan-style monastery where you can visit. Langtang Trekking Region is nearby China, Tibet border, so you can observe the culture and tradition related to Tibetan culture and tradition. You can enjoy the view and surroundings at Sing Gompa and have a relaxing stay for a night. Sing Gompa is also known as Chandanbari.

Day 04:

Trek to Laurebinayak (3,910m / 12,830 ft)

You will be heading towards Laurebinayak, today’s village, for the night's stay. You have to climb up the hillocks, which are partially accompanied by woods and views. The trail is not through the dense woods as in earlier trekking days; however, the woods will always be on your side. Besides, slowly, you will encounter a change in vegetation as you gradually move upward near Laurebinayak. Tall trees and dense woods will be replaced by short trees, shrubs, and bushes. The clouds will seem to be below you, and your trails and the Himalayas will be above you. You need to take proper rest on this day as it determines if you have any effect of high altitude. Additionally, the next day is harder as you will be passing Laurebinayak La pass to accomplish the Gosaikunda Lake Trek.

Day 05:

Trek from Lauribinayak to Gosaikunda via Lauribinayak La (4,380m / 14,370 ft)

This is one of the toughest as well as amazing days of the Gosaikund Lake Trek, as you will be passing Lauribinayak La (4,165 m / 13,661 ft) and reach your ultimate destination, Gosaikunda Lake. Spending the chilly night at Lauribinayak village, you will need to climb up a steep hill that is steep and hard due to the high altitude. On the top of Lauribinayak hill, on the south, you can view the ranges of the hill you have crossed, and on the north, you can have the majestic Himalayan ranges (Langtang Range, Himchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh) on the north. You will also encounter a small stupa where locals worship and pray. Then, the trail ahead is a mixture of upward and downward staircases along with the narrow trekking lane. You will not encounter any shadow of trees. The trail is decorated with high rocky mountains, shrubs (thorny, flowery), waterfalls (in spring and monsoon season), and lakes. You can also encounter herds of sheep grazing in the hills down below. You will observe other lakes, Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda, and will reach Gosaikunda Lake. Since Gosaikunda Lake is a holy lake, there is a temple of Lord Shiva, Gosaikunda Mahadev, and Trishul Dhara (Trident used to shot mountain) on the bank of Gosaikunda Lake.

Day 06:

Trek from Gosaikunda Lake to Singa Gompa (3,330 m / 10,925b ft)

If you have not explored the Gosaikunda Lake surroundings, Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, and the temples, you can explore them in the early morning. Then, after having breakfast, you will return from Gosaikunda Lake. You will be staying at Sing Gompa for the night as you descend towards Dhunche. On this day, you will have to capture and treasure all the magnificent beauty of Gosaikunda Lake, as you will be bidding goodbye to heavenly Gosaikunda Lake. You will encounter both upward and downward trails. However, most of the trail will be steep downward. You will also feel the change in your body and breathing process as you will be approaching lower elevation. You can also purchase cheese from the local cheese factory of Sing Gompa, as most of the trekkers do so.

Day 07:

Trek to Dhunche (1950 m / 6,400 ft)

You will pass various spots as Dhimsa, Deurali until you reach Dhunche from Sing Gompa. You will be following the same trail as you used to reach Gosaikunda Lake. Nevertheless, you will be relaxing in the fresh air as your breath would not be high to cope with increasing altitude and climbing hills. Gradually, descending to Dhunche will make you lighter and happier with the experience of Gosaikunda Lake and the villages and view through the Gosaikunda Lake trail. You can enjoy your stay at a standard hotel in Dhunche.

Day 08:

Drive to Kathmandu (1350m), 5/6 an hours

You will take the same highway to return to Kathmandu. The Nepal Army will carry out the inspection to ensure that you have not carried any natural property of Langtang National Park. You can enjoy and capture the memories of chilly weather, hills, and tiny villages until you come back for the next trip in the Langtang Trekking region. Gosaikunda Lake and the Mythological Tales

Gosaikunda Lake holds a high religious value as per the Hindu mythology. As per the local people's beliefs, Gosaikunda Lake was created by Lord Shiva with his trident. When Lord Shiva was balancing the war between the Dev (Gods) and the Devil, he had to swallow the poison of the world to save it. It was extremely hard to hold the poison for Lord Shive and the poison made him thirsty. Then, he pulled off his trident and perforated the mountain. The shot of Trident made the flow of water from the mountain, which created the Gosaikunda Lake. Lord Shiva satisfied his thirst. It made the Gosaikunda Lake a holy lake with major religious value. Every year, on the occasion of Janai Purnima, the full moon of August, pilgrims from different places visit Gosaikunda with the hope of fulfilling their wishes, getting blessings, and residing in heaven by cleansing all the unknown faults of their lives. Early morning, despite the cold weather and freezing water, they take a bath in the Gosaikunda Lake and carry worshiping. During the time of Janai Purnima, the Gosaikunda Lake gets too crowded by the pilgrims. Mostly, the pilgrims of Hindu and Buddhists visit Gosaikunda Lake with a religious purpose.
