Overview

The Short Gosaikunda Lake Trek is one of the popular trekking routes of the Langtang Trekking Region, and the 12-Day Gosaikunda Trek with Helambu tends to expand the pleasure of the Gosaikunda Lake Trek. Gosaikunda Lake holds religious value and is regarded as a wetland of international importance (RAMSAR site).

Gosaikunda Lake holds a high religious value as per Hindu mythology. Gosaikunda Lake was created by Lord Shiva with his trident. When Lord Shiva was balancing the war between the Dev (Gods) and the Devil, he had to swallow the poison of the world to save it. The poison made him stingy and thirsty. Then, he pulled off his trident and perforated the mountain. The shot of the trident made the flow of water, which created the Gosaikunda Lake. Lord Shiva satisfied his thirst. It made the Gosaikunda Lake a holy lake with major religious value. Every year, on the occasion of Janai Purnima, the full moon of August, pilgrims from different places visit Gosaikunda with the hope of fulfilling their wishes, getting blessings, and residing in heaven by cleansing all the unknown sins of their lives. Early morning, despite the cold weather and freezing water, they take a bath in the Gosaikunda Lake and carry on worshiping. During the time of Janai Purnima, the Gosaikunda Lake gets too crowded with pilgrims from different countries. Mostly, Hindus and Buddhists visit Gosaikunda Lake for religious purposes.

12 Days Gosaikunda Trek with Helambu begins from Dhunche, the small town and capital of Rasuwa district and Langtang Region, and ends at Melamchi Bazaar. You will drive to Kathmandu from Melamchi Bazaar. The Days Gosaikunda Trek with Helambu is much more suitable for new trekkers and their enthusiasm for wildlife, culture, and mythology. Day 02:

Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche (1950m/6,400 ft)

Simply, you will be driving towards the northern direction from Kathmandu valley, away from urban areas and closer to the Himalayas. You will drive to Dhunche, a small but major town of the Langtang Region and the Rasuwa District. You will pass various villages, stations, and towns like Galchi, Trisuli, and Ramche. The road won’t be smooth and paved, and mostly, you will be jiggled due to the roughness of the road. As you drive ahead, changes in weather, breeze, and altitude can be felt. A small inspection will be made by the Nepal Army as you enter the Langtang National Park area, and inform you not to harm any flora and fauna. You will be staying for the night at Dhunche, so you can roam around Dhunche to buy things that you may have missed for the 12 Days Gosaikunda Trek: Gosaikunda Lake with Helambu.

Day 03:

Trek to Thulo Syabru (2,210m/7,250ft) from Dhunche

On this day, you will begin to trek instead of riding any vehicles for the Gosaikunda Lake and Helambu Trek. Gradually, you will move towards the higher elevation. You will have breakfast and start trekking towards Thulo Syabru. Thulo Syabru is a small village mostly inhabited by the Tamang community of Nepal, where you meet the Tamang people and culture. Tamang is one of the indigenous groups of Nepal that has been living in the Langtang region and preserving their authentic language, culture, and traditions for years. To reach Thulo Syabru, you will need to walk through dense woods of rhododendron, pines, and firs, accompanied by the river. From this day until you pass Lauribinayak La pass, you will be climbing steep hillocks.

Day 04:

Trek to Singa Gomba (3,330m/ 10,925ft)

Today’s destination is Sing Gompa, for which we will march after having breakfast with a touch of local cuisine. The trail through rhododendron, firs, and pine forest continues as we march forward. The steepness is high as we trek, but the tranquility in the woods will create the soundness and energy to climb up and explore the Langtang Trekking Region. With the steep climb, you will reach Sing Gompa, also known as Chandhanbari, the famous spot of the Gosaikunda Lake Trek. Sing Gompa has a local cheese factory and will enable you to enjoy the cheese products and food items. Additionally, Sing Gompa has a Tibetan style Monastery reflecting the cultural artifacts of the Langtang Trekking Region. Langtang Trekking Region is nearby China, Tibet border, so you will observe the culture and tradition related to Tibetan culture and tradition. You will enjoy the view and surroundings at Sing Gompa, leading to a relaxing night's stay.

Day 05:

Trek to Laurebinayak (3,910m / 12,830 ft)

You will stay at Laurebinayak for tonight, so today you will be walking up to Laurebinayak. You will climb the hillocks, which are partially accompanied by woods and views. The trail is not through the dense woods as in earlier trekking days; however, the woods will always be on your side. Gradually, you will encounter a change in vegetation as you move upward near Laurebinayak. Tall trees and dense woods will be replaced by short trees, shrubs, and bushes. The clouds will seem to be below you and your trails. The Himalayas will be above you. If the weather favors you, you will be pleasantly surprised by the marvelous view of clouds, sunrise, sunset, and the Himalayas. Likewise, you need to take proper rest on this day as it determines if you have any effect of high altitude. The next day is harder as you will be passing Laurebinayak La pass (4,165m / 13,661ft) to accomplish the Gosaikunda Lake Trek. The Helambu region begins with the end of the Laurebinayak La pass.

Day 06:

Trek to Gosaikunda (4,380m / 14,370 ft)

This is one of the hardest as well as amazing days of the 12 Days Gosaikunda Trek: Gosaikunda Lake with Helambu, as you will be passing Lauribinayak La (4,165 m / 13,661 ft) and reach your ultimate pleasant destination, Gosaikunda Lake. Having a chilly night at Lauribinayak village, you will need to climb up a steep hill, which is steep and hard due to the high altitude. The stay at Laurebinayak will also support in coping with increasing altitude and avoiding altitude sickness. On the top of Lauribinayak hill, on the south, you can view the ranges of the hill you have crossed, and on the north, you can have the majestic Himalayan ranges (Langtang Range, Himchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh) on the north. You will also encounter a small stupa where locals worship and pray. Then, the trail ahead is a mixture of the upward and downward staircase, along with the narrow trekking lane. You will not encounter any shadow of trees. The trail is decorated with high rocky mountains, shrubs (thorny, flowery), waterfalls (in spring and monsoon season), and lakes. You can also encounter herds of sheep grazing in the hills down below. You will observe other lakes, Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda, and will reach Gosaikunda Lake. Since Gosaikunda Lake is a holy lake, there is a temple of Lord Shiva, Gosaikunda Mahadev, and Trishul Dhara (Trident used to shot mountain) on the bank of Gosaikunda Lake. You will have an attractive view of pristine lakes and the Rocky Mountains.

Day 07:

You will see these lakes after a walk of around 1hour and 30minutes. The tranquility and the natural essence of these lakes will make all the steep trails worthwhile and revive your energy. Essential Information

Benefits of 12 Days Gosaikunda Trek with Helambu

Gosaikunda is famous for its religious value as well as the amazement it provides throughout the trails with tranquility and natural beauty, along with local authentic culture. Gosaikunda is located at Langtang National Park, which conserves and promotes the nature and well-being of wildlife (both flora and fauna) and reflects the richness of nature in the Gosaikunda Trail. This makes Gosaikunda one of the desirable trekking destinations of the Langtang Trekking Region. Mostly, there are two types of Gosaikunda Trekking Packages available: Short Gosaikunda Lake Trek: 8 days to Gosaikunda Lake, and 12 Days Gosaikunda Trek: Gosaikunda Lake with Helambu.

Short Gosaikunda Lake Trek, 8 days to Godly Lake starts from Dhunche and ends at Dhunche as trekkers use the same trail to and from Gosaikunda Lake. It has a short itinerary and an easier trail as one returns through the same trail, which makes the trekkers quite familiar with the path. If the trekkers have a short stay in Nepal, they can choose the Short Gosaikunda Lake Trek.

Nevertheless, Gosaikunda is also said to have a network of 108 lakes with religious significance, and only a few of them are accessible. 12 Days Gosaikunda Trek with Helambu enables the trekkers to reach those lakes that are accessible to humans. Normally, when you join the Short Gosaikunda Lake Trek: 8days to Godly Lake, you trek up to Gosaikunda Lake and view Saraswati and Bhairab Lakes. But when you choose the 12 Days Gosaikunda Trek: Gosaikunda Lake with Helambu, you are enabled to observe more lakes of the Gosaikunda area, such as Saraswati, Bhairab, Surya, Chandra, and Dudh. Additionally, trekkers can explore the Helambu Region, which starts after passing Laurebinayak La. Trekkers also pass Gosaikunda La and Tharepati La (La means pass in the Tibetan language) to continue trekking through the Helambu Region with the exclusive snowcapped mountain view of Langtang Range, Himchuli, Manaslu, Ganesh, Jugal, Shishapangma, and on clear days, trekkers could also view Mount Everest from Sermathang. After staying at Gosaikunda Lake, instead of passing Laurebinayak La, trekkers pass Gosaikunda La and observe the lakes as Dudh, Chandra, and Surya. Likewise, trekkers stay and communicate with the villages such as Ghopte, Tharepati, Tarke Gyang, Sermathang, and Melamchi Bazaar. Trekkers get the opportunity to encounter diverse villages and cultures throughout the Gosaikunda with the Helambu region trek.
